ABOUT

Jaz McShane is a passionate Visual Art & Design Educator and practising artist currently situated in the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia on Kaurna land - currently working in a studio space at Fleurieu Arthouse in McLaren Vale.

Jaz's work spans mixed media including acrylic painting, cyanotype printing, lost-wax jewellery making, collage, felting, digital art and clay sculpture. Jaz is drawn to working across disciplines because each medium offers a different way of moving through an idea. Regardless of the process, she finds herself returning to the same palette — reds, pinks, oranges, greens, and blues — colours that carry personal and symbolic weight, and that reflect her inner world more honestly than words often can.

Jaz's practice centres on themes of the female form, mental health, personal development, and emotional expression - "I approach my work organically, allowing pieces to develop naturally rather than forcing them, which keeps the work authentic. I am interested in how individual pieces come together to form a larger narrative — art that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable."

Ultimately, Jaz's practice is as much about the journey as the final piece. It is a space for self-reflection, exploration, and growth.

Jaz completed her Bachelor of Education (Secondary), Bachelor of Arts (Visual Art & History double major) in 2021. From 2022 to 2026 Jaz has worked as a Visual Art & Design and History teacher working with students ranging from Reception - Year 10. Throughout her time teaching, Jaz has embraced an enriching journey focussing on upskilling and artistic exploration, delving into new processes and techniques such as Leadlight design, Oil painting, Jewellery making (Lost-Wax), felting, printmaking (lino and Cyanotype) and sewing/fashion. This has worked to develop Jaz's artistic repertoire and also reflect a deep commitment to lifelong learning and experimentation within Visual Art & Design.
