university major piece of work

This piece of work explores personal and artistic development through a layered self-portrait piece - representing my self and my art practice through a deconstructed canvas. Traditionally, in an art exhibition or gallery the audience views the ‘final product’, I wanted to challenge this idea and aimed for this piece of work to show the viewers not only the ‘final product’ (layer 5) but also the 'process and development' of how I got to the final product through the representation and exploration of various personal and artistic references. Therefore, my work also inhibits strong references of myself as a person and as an artist. Layer 1 through to 5 shows a progression of work that starts as a 'naked canvas' frame and works it's way up to a 'resolved artwork'.
